About Daisy

Daisy fell in love with the kora in 2014 during her first week of her ethnomusicology degree at School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). Since then, her lessons have moved from London to Bamako where she studies the aural tradition with internationally acclaimed singer Hawa Kasse Mady Diabate, daughter to one of the greatest names to come from Mali, Kasse Mady Diabate. Daisy’s performance of kora and song has been gathered from her vocal tuition with Hawa, mostly sung in Bambara or Mandinka, while her discovery of the kora has come from a range of teachers who span from a variety of origins – from the florid Malian style to old-school Gambia, to the playful percussive style from deep Casamance.
